Color Me Lucky: Pantone Mini Capsule

When Sewing by Ti organized March’s tour, I was immediately inspired to make a mini spring capsule. As usual I had too many ideas, and I could not reign it in until the fabric arrived. I had a yellow gingham skirt included, but wasn’t feeling it as much. So I will continue to add to it with some tanks, halters, another pair or 2 of shorts, skirts and dresses.

I decided to use bright, vibrant colors because I either wear black, navy or vibrant colors. The muted just didn’t work for me.

So I chose primrose yellow, pink yarrow, greenery (of course,) island paradise and lapis blue (which is a personal favorite) to work with for inspiration.

LA Finch fabric was a huge help finding colors to fit the pantone theme, and sent me this beautiful denim fabric that I used for my shorts. It has zero stretch, but worked so perfect for my vintage inspired shorts. I love that it is a vibrant blue, but still works as a neutral.

I also used a fuschia rayon spandex and the blue floral voile from LA finch Fabrics.

My green polka dot dolman is self drafted. Not perfect since I made it to tuck in and pull on. But I am quite pleased with it.

I used the Cali Faye basics tank and modified it to be a tie waist. I also made the Wildflower Kimono and Phinney Ridge CarCardigas modern touches to my vintage feel mini capsule. I love the beginning and on filling in the rest with more neutral pieces. I am craving a bright yellow and white striped tank.

I showed how I mixed and matched. The kimono is out if place with the tops I made, but definitely still very useable. I used a RTW green tank as a stand in for how I will probably style it. Now, I know people were concerned with my lack of neutrals, but I think the blues are great neutrals and I am pretty stoked with this bright, summery wardrobe I started.

I have to say that this was a fun challenge. It made me think about what I like and what I am gravitated to in my wardrobe. I also know I don’t like fashion rules and dress for myself. This all may change when I return to the workforce though.

Ready to follow along on another great blog tour? We’ve got inspiration for you every weekday for the entire month of March. I can’t wait to see how others are interpreting this color palette.
